About the Artist: Bill was born and raised in Portland, Oregon, where he said it was much too wet to play outside which nurtured his drawing skills and imagination. He moved to NYC where he worked as an illustrator and cartoonist where he wrote "Plympton," a political cartoon strip which was syndicated in over twenty papers by Universal Press Syndicate.
All his life, he was fascinated by animation and even sent some work to Disney when he was 14, who claimed he had promise but was too young. He did not animate his first film until 1983 and was nominated for an Oscar for "Your Face" in 1988. "Suddenly people began returning my phone calls," he recalls. He was very popular commercially, his work appearing in many popular ads. After a number of successful short films, he made his first feature film and was again nominated for an Oscar for "Guard Dog".
His style, which can be somewhat whimsical at times, is very varied, not sticking to any particular style. |
